VENUE

ASSEMBLY HALL ON THE WILHELMSPLATZ

Wilhelmsplatz 1 | 37073 Goettingen

The auditorium building, designed and newly constructed by the university architect Otto Praël (1793–1862), was inaugurated in 1837 on the occasion of the university’s centennial celebration.

The auditorium is still used today for prestigious university events and has a capacity of over 400 seats. It can be used for academic celebrations, inaugural lectures, faculty graduation ceremonies, festive conference openings, lectures and honours. The auditorium is also suitable for classical concerts and readings.

During the IFASD, the opening ceremony and the plenary lectures will be held here. It will also host the sessions of the scientific programme (1 room).

CONFERENCE AND EVENT CENTRE
"ALTE MENSA" ON THE WILHELMSPLATZ

Wilhelmsplatz 3 | 37073 Goettingen

The new conference and event centre "Alte Mensa" was officially opened on 16 February 2016 with a festive evening event. With the new premises, the University is responding to the ever-increasing demand for larger and more flexible event spaces in Göttingen's city centre.

The multifunctional building concept includes two large conference rooms on the ground floor, the Emmy Noether and Hannah Vogt halls, which are 120 m² and 140 m² respectively and can accommodate a maximum of 126 people. Another seminar room on the ground floor is the Taberna, which measures 60m² and can accommodate up to 56 people.

On the first floor is the Adam-von-Trott Hall, suitable for concerts, readings and receptions, which measures 265m2 and can accommodate up to 328 people seated in rows.

During the IFASD, the sessions of the scientific programme (4 rooms) will take place there.

TRAVELING TO GOETTINGEN: How to reach

By plane: The nearest airport is Hannover, but you will often find cheaper tickets to fly into Frankfurt International Airport. Hannover Airport has regular train connections to Goettingen (with transfer at Hannover central train station). Frankfurt Airport has its own train station with direct train connections to Goettingen (however some train connections require a transfer at Frankfurt central train station). Travelling by plane within Germany is not generally practical, as this often takes more time than taking the train.

By train: Most IC (Intercity) and ICE (Intercity Express) trains on the North/South, East/West routes stop in Goettingen. There is a direct train from Frankfurt Airport. From Goettingen station you can either take a taxi to wherever your accommodation is, or take a bus from the central bus station, which is located next to the train station.
